My mentor's name is Anna Jackson. Her favorite type of art to make is paintings, prisma, and pen art. Her blog post link is anna-apex-2018.weebly.com. I think having an AP art mentor will benefit me because I can ask their opinion on my artwork and how it can be improved, along with asking the teacher's opinion. I hope to learn how to make my projects unique and not just be happy with sub-par work!

The most helpful warm up to me was the pen box drawings. These were most helpful because I had never known how to do these techniques and I can now properly show difference in shading with pens. Composition: arrangement of elements in work of art that are distinct to the subject of work.
Value: lightness and darkness of drawing. Pros of pen: very fine point and can show contrast effectively. Cons of pen: can't be erased. Pros of pencil: can be erased and can be blended. Cons of pencil: can't show contrast as well as pen. Pros of charcoal: if a mistake is made, it can be blended away. Cons of charcoal: can be messy and must use different types of charcoal to show contrast. My inspired artist is Raku Inoue who lives in Montreal, Canada. He has created models of insects, such as beetles and butterflies, but in a unique way. The models are made up of all different types of leaves and flower pedals to create masterpieces that look like the actual real- life insects. These works of arts stood out to me because in my mind I find insects, like beetles, absolutely disgusting and hideous, but Raku Inoue portrayed them as beautiful and delicate little creatures. To me, if an artist can change the way I view an object or concept that drastically, they are very talented. I also found the way he used organic material instead of just using paint, pencils, pens, etc, very creative, and it made the artwork come to life.
